God Less Americaby Paul Parsons He did it! The Terminator terminated the term of Governor Gray Davis in California and will soon be terminating social programs right and left…er, left and left? Republicans are celebrating the first GOP state-wide office winner in that state since, well, since Strom Thurmond was nearly the same age as his spouse. So now, the man with the thick Austrian accent will be leading the state with the most accents into a new era. Hallelujah! Or is it? Years ago, Demetri Dudamis, a man with obvious clarity of prophetic vision, predicted that one day, the state of California would suffer a cataclysmic earthquake, causing the entire state to fall into the Pacific Ocean. Following recent events, one has to wonder if he meant to say a “landslide” would be California’s undoing. Arnold Schwartzenegger’s landslide victory is likely to be more catastrophic to that state, and indeed, the nation than perhaps any election in history. Certainly, in the battle between liberalism and conservatism that has been ongoing since time immemorial, the philosophy of “less government and more individual responsibility” has made some important strides in recent years, but fiscal conservatism is far less important than social conservatism to most fundamental Christians. Where else but in the state of California, a state that has sunken into the pit long before its predicted fall into the Pacific, would Satan choose to make a stand against the faith of our fathers? Where else but that enormous den of iniquity would he use his lies and deceit to fire his first shot across the bow of the ship of state that is Christian America? The fallout from this election will be more destructive to the cause of Christ than most of us can imagine right now. As national Republican leaders are congratulating themselves for a most unlikely victory, they are licking their chops over the huge potential of electoral votes to be gained in the next national election. That’s all well and good, except that no one is talking about the price of those electoral votes. In order for any Republican presidential candidate, including incumbent George W. Bush, to win the state of California in November 2004, he must present to those voters the same message that Arnold did…one of fiscal conservatism and social liberalism. And that message just may become the benchmark of the Republican Party nationally, an outcome which would eliminate any hope of governmental protection of Christian virtues. Gone will be any hope of outlawing abortion. Gone will be the dream of redefining our nation along the lines our founding fathers envisioned. Gone will be any possibility of separating the state from the church…or, in other words, getting the government off our backs. Gone will be any mention of right and wrong, black and white, or godly or ungodly. All gone. If the Republican Party ever decides it can win an election without the Christian vote, we’re done. Or as Arnold would say, “You can stick a forhk in us.” God bless America? Maybe it will be more like God less America. |
